Where is the Money Going - Week 8 in Session

week 8 where the money is going.jpg

District 13 Constituents,

Week 8 of the session is now in the books. My week was filled with more budget setting on JFAC from the Judicial Branch, Constitutional Offices, Colleges and Universities, and Military Division among many others. The week ended in JFAC setting the Idaho Department of Corrections budget in the amount of $268.6 million. I and my fellow Representatives carried this budget in JFAC. This is a lot of money that I’d like to spend in other areas to benefit Idaho citizens, but, unfortunately, our prison population is increasing along with the state’s population.

On Thursday I had the opportunity to vote for a bill I co-sponsored providing $200 million in tax relief to Idaho citizens representing the largest tax reduction in recent history.  This is exciting news for Idaho citizens and businesses who will enjoy more money put back in the pocketbooks. Thanks to Idaho’s strong, nation leading economy, we can do this without reducing our commitment to education or infrastructure.

Friday morning I had the opportunity to vote on a another bill that I co-sponsored. This bill, SB1313, codifies Idaho case law insuring our right to self defense and protecting our loved ones. The bill passed the Senate on a party line vote 29-6 and will be transmitted to the House for their consideration.

Lastly, I’d like to share with you that on Tuesday I filed for re-election to the District 13 Senate seat. Thank you for allowing me to represent you at our State Capitol. I continue to enjoy the opportunity you have given me to work on your behalf.
