Nearing the End - Week 9 in Session
District 13 Constituents,
We’ve now completed the 9th week of the 2018 Legislative session. The end of the session is in sight and we’re experiencing the mad scramble to complete our work. On Friday, JAFC completed setting the last of our budgets. Many around the Capitol view the completion of the budget committee’s work as the two week milestone from the end of the session. Beginning Monday the JFAC (Joint Finance Appropriations) Committee will only meet to address “trailer” bills. Trailer bills are bills that were passed through both the Senate and House which require funding.
On Monday, I had the opportunity to preside over the Idaho Senate for the Idaho Day Celebration. I enjoyed working with a fellow Senator to honor the day President Abraham Lincoln signed the bill to establish the Idaho Territory on March 4th, 1863. 27 years later, President Benjamin Harrison would sign the bill making Idaho a state on July 3rd, 1890. We have many that came before us to thank for what we have in Idaho today.
